Nottinghamshire County Council Trading Standards Service have received a report of a text message scam, in which individuals are receiving text messages, claiming that they are eligible for a DWP energy support grant. The message may try to pressure residents to apply quickly and ask them to click on a link to apply, or pay an amount of money to make a claim. The Department of Pensions and Benefits (DWP) will never ask for residents to provide their personal details by text or via links provided within a text, nor will they ask for residents to pay an amount of money to make a claim. Trading Standards advise residents not to respond to these text messages or click on any links contained within these messages. You can report a scam text message by forwarding a text to 7726 so your mobile network provider can investigate the origin of the text and arrange to block or ban the sender if it is found to be malicious.
If you are unsure whether a message is genuine, then you can contact the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0808 223 1133 for advice. |
