Firearms Licensing - Mental Health Guidance

Firearms Licensing are wanting to get a message out far and wide surrounding mental health, we are urging our certificate holders to ‘Seek Help Without Fear’ if they are struggling with their mental health. 

Mental health is not an automatic bar to holding a firearms certificate and seeking help will not trigger a revocation, our aim is to keep certificate holders safe while removing the stigma around seeking help.

We will ask you to seek temporary storage for your guns to eliminate any risk and focus on you, signposting any support you may need - but we urge you to see your GP as a first point of contact at the earliest opportunity.

Please don't wait or avoid medical help, we are here to support the person behind the gun, whether that is you, your partner, a friend, colleague or neighbor. 

Firearms Licensing will assess each case individually and ensure decisions are transparent, fair, proportionate, and focused on public safety while supporting certificate holders appropriately.
