๐ Halloween Safety Advice ๐ Dear Resident As Halloween approaches, we want everyone to enjoy the celebrations safely and responsibly. Hallowe'en has become an increasingly popular celebration over the past few years for children, families and young people especially, but it is important not to have fun at the expense of others.
Stay Safe While Trick-or-Treating - Tips for a safer Halloweโen
For trick or treaters: ๐ป Young children should be accompanied by a responsible adult where possible and stay in groups. ๐ฆ Keep to or stay in well-lit areas. Wear bright or reflective clothing and carry a torch to help you stay visible to road users after dark. ๐ธ Take extra care when crossing roads and stay on pavements where available. ๐ Consider calling only at houses where you know the occupants, rather than strangers. ๐ Respect the privacy and wishes of people who do not want to take part in trick or treat โ observe the 'No Trick or Treaters please' posters people may display in doors or windows.
Respect Your Community: ๐ Enjoy the fun, but remember that criminal damage, anti-social behaviour, intimidating people, or throwing objects at property are offences and may result in police action. ๐พ Be mindful of pets and younger children who may be frightened by unexpected visitors or loud noises. ๐ Respect residents who do not wish to take part. If there are no Halloween decorations or lights, please move on politely.
For residents: ๐ฆบ Residents are advised to continue to be vigilant when opening the door to strangers or unexpected callers. ๐ One way to deter unwanted trick or treaters on 31 October is to display a 'no trick or treaters' poster on your doors and windows.
If you feel unsafe ๐ช Donโt open your door if youโre unsure who is there. Use your spyhole, look out of a window, and use your door chain if you do decide to open your door. โ๏ธ Have a contact number of a close relative or good neighbour to hand by your telephone, just in case you need to phone them. ๐ If you are part of a Neighbourhood Watch scheme, let your coordinator know that you will be on your own at Halloweโen. If you are a coordinator, please identity people in your scheme that may be vulnerable and offer them reassurance. ๐ If you are driving on the evening of the 31st, remember that excited children may be crossing the road unexpectedly, so slow down in residential areas and take extra care. ๐ There will be increased patrols this Halloweโen to deter any anti-social behaviour; officers will be quick to disperse groups of people who are found to be causing a nuisance. ๐ฎ๐ผโโ๏ธ Nottinghamshire Police will not tolerate any anti-social behaviour at any time of the year.
In an Emergency ๐ Call 999 in an emergency where there is an immediate threat to life, crime in progress, serious injury or you feel threatened. ๐ฅ๏ธ For non-emergencies, to report anti-social behaviour please report online or contact police via 101.
Have a fun, safe and respectful Halloween from your local policing team.
